The best laid plans of mice and men......

My surgery didn't go so well. And that's an understatement! It was supposed to be very minor, in office...no prob. Well, had it done about 2:15 on Wed. The only thing the doc said was the skin and stuff he was removing beside my little toenail was deeper and bigger than he originally thought. Fine. I didn't feel a thing..it was frozen. Piece of cake. About 5:30 that afternoon..the novacaine wore off! It started throbbing! With every heartbeat I got sharp shooting pains in my toe! Hurt worse than when he did it in the hospital and actually removed bone!! I was at the point that I couldn't get my breath about 8:30pm and called to ask what was going on! I was desperate..I never call the doc!! He said the bandage was too tight..take it off and double up on my pain pills. I took it off, doubled the pain pills and it was like I was taking placeboes!! Nothing helped. Stayed up all night in my recliner with foot in air and ice packs. Still throbbed until I thought I was going mad (am already there)! I don't usually take more than one pain pill a day, so this was most unusual that they wouldn't work! Then about 5 in the morning..it just stopped!! I mean, it was sore, I've got stitches for cryin out loud, but the throbbing just stopped!! I even got a couple hours sleep!! Sooooooo....near as I can figure out (haven't got my medical degree yet) the wonderful doc left me with an exposed nerve or something! I must remind myself to thank him when I see him on Monday!! Needless to say, I slept most of Thursday instead of the nice visit I had planned with my son!! And we were gonna play Scene It!!! Darn!!! So like I said....never say "piece of cake" until you've actually eaten it!!!

Duh - I guess I should've written, I hope your toe (and you) are doing better TODAY. I just realized you had it done yesterday...

I also can't believe you're just starting to make lists... I've had to do them for awhile now. The old brain ain't what she used to be.
